For many years, Walde Mar de Andrade e Silva has been painting scenes from the lives of the Xingú Indians. Walde Mar is related to the tribe and has intensely shared in their lives. He says that nowhere else has he ever experienced happier, more peaceful people.
Walde Mar has made it his mission not only to show us the original peace and ordinary joy experienced by the Xingú, but to lead us there through the medium of his paintings. MORENÁ, the name given to the deck of cards of his paintings, is the Xingú name for the place of human origin.
Walde Mar’s home in São Paulo, Brazil, has grown into a cultural centre with a native theme – a crossroads between civilisation and nature. His paintings have brought him reknown well beyond the borders of his native Brazil.
